ABOUT KARINA

Karina Talamantes is a
City of Sacramento Councilmember proudly serving District 3:
Natomas, Northgate, and Gardenland.

As the proud daughter of immigrant parents who taught me the value of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance, my life story resembles those who live in my community.

Before serving on the City Council, I owned Frutazo, a small local business, worked as a Chief of Staff at City Hall, and was a Trustee to the Sacramento County Board of Education. As I enter my fourth year at City Hall, I have had the honor of serving as Vice Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for nearly three years, a testament to the trust my colleagues have placed in my leadership. In these leadership positions, I have helped guide council discussions, build consensus, and move policy forward while maintaining a collaborative and respectful approach to governance.

Some of my key accomplishments as a Councilmember in my first term include:

  • Ran the Measure E campaign to save the libraries, which passed with 74% approval, and fundraising over $210,000

  • Securing $1.9 million from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) for the Northgate Transportation Priorities Plan

  • Improving public transportation by connecting the Ninos Parkway, adding traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, asking neighbors to Slow Down, and quick build programs.

For years, District 3 residents felt that their voices were not heard at City Hall. Because of this, I have focused my efforts on hosting free community events. I also host Cafecito con Karina monthly office hours where neighbors can stop by, organize neighborhood gatherings, and communicate directly with my neighbors in both English and Spanish.

These next few years will continue to be challenging because of the actions of the Trump administration. And, as a daughter of immigrant parents, it is my responsibility to stand with my immigrant community. I will continue to be vocal against this fascist authoritarian government we face today. I will also remain focused on my priorities of addressing public safety, homelessness, economic development, and investment in historically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Running for re-election to me is about continuing to show up every day with humility, putting people first, being honest and transparent, and delivering results. I look forward to continue to serve you.
